Painting Poem- Will Mthews

"Knight, Death, and the Devil" by Durer

To the untrained eye, this Knight walks alone,
Only his feeble sword to guard him against Death and the hideous devil,
But to those who can see more clearly,
We recognize another power at work,
A power far stronger than that of evil,
This knight is a solider of God,
Armed with his faith,
This warrior can repel any attack Death and the Devil may send,
He rides through the mangled landscape with no fear in him,
When the devil tries’ his final and most cruel trick,
The Knight triumphs, for he has
“Put on the whole armor of God
That he may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Ehp. 6:11)”
