Ekphrastic Challenge- Mikaela Gatewood

Klimt, Gustav, The Kiss (Lovers), oil and gold leaf on canvas, 1907-1908

The patterns may swirl
and fade.

The gold may lose its brilliance
and shine.

Her hair may tangle,
the flowers may fall.
His crown of ivy
may hang dead
with defeat.

But know this

The lovers will not fade,
and the lovers will not fall.

Their romance,
their life,
will dance with
brilliance.
Will swirl with
affection.
Will shine
forever more.

Their patterns will whirl
and their gold will sparkle

Because know this

The lover's kiss
will not fade,
and will not fall.
