Why Art? Maddie Wheeler

Why do we have art? Why do we love it? Maybe because it's all a lot of people have left. The basic role of any artist and the basic job they take on is to capture how they feel about the world. Different artists do this in different ways, maybe music, or writing, or visual art, or acting. It all ultimately comes down to how people feel. You could argue that the best sitcoms weren't written about how an author feels about life or death, but you can certainly argue that they were written to make people laugh. And that artist probably feels like what they would love to do with their life is make people laugh. However simple or complex the piece is, it's all about the author or artist conveying how they feel about the world at that time.
The language arts are separate from other arts purely because language arts are necessary for every day life. I could go a day without looking at a painting or listening to a song but I couldn't go a day without thinking or speaking or writing. Language is such a necessary thing in our society today and the arts world has influenced it so much that now the deepest thoughts and ideas are rooted in the simplest art form, words. Language arts are so different from others because it is nearly impossible to go a day without using them in some way.
I'd like to consider myself an artist, as I am a musician. And it comes across a little cocky to me that I would call myself an artist just because I can blow into a clarinet and make "music," but that's really all that it takes to become one. Music is definitely something that allows me to transport myself into different moods and points of view and that's what makes me qualify myself as an artist. I use music to show how I feel about those moods. I am an artist.
